Education Search Service (ESS)

The International Coaching Federation (ICF) does not offer initial education and training to become a coach (we only offer professional development for practiced coaches). As the accrediting body for coach-specific education and accredited providers, we cannot recommend any specific coaching education organizations.

To ensure quality education, ICF accredits coaching education organizations that meet the high standards set forth by ICF and ICF Coaching Education. To find ICF-Accredited Providers we suggest that you use our Education Search Service (ESS) below. The search for a coach education program is a highly individual process that depends greatly on your personal preferences and goals. The ESS is designed to give you basic information about all ICF-Accredited Education Providers.

Program Description: About the Mattone Leadership Enneagram Inventory (MLEI) and Leveraging the Power of the MLEI as an Executive Coach

Most leaders have some understanding of their “inner-core” (i.e., character, self-concept, values, thinking patterns, emotional make-up, etc.) strengths and weaknesses, but most leaders may not know much about how their inner-core strengths and weaknesses translate into the “traits” that ultimately determine how they come across as a leader, which are the outer-core leadership behaviors they exhibit. Said another way: the strength, vibrancy and maturity of a leaders’ inner-core determines the strength, vibrancy and effectiveness of their outer-core.

There’s no one “correct” leadership style, because every organization is different and needs to be led differently. But anyone who wants to excel as a leader needs to know where they are strong and weak both in the inner-core as well as the outer-core. Great leadership is less a function of what your predominant trait is and much more a function of the overall maturity of your traits, all of which combine to determine your leadership presence and effectiveness. Do your executive clients know their predominant leadership traits? Do they know how strong, vibrant and mature each of their traits are? The MLEI can help you, the executive coach, determine answers to both of these questions. That’s why I created the Mattone Leadership Enneagram Inventory (MLEI). This powerful assessment was first created by me back in 1997. I have spent years revising, validating, and testing the MLEI constructs both empirically as well experientially with executives I have coached all around the world. While there is no perfect assessment, I have found the MLEI to be an accurate measure of a leaders inner-core maturity as it isolates strengths and gifts that need to be leveraged as well as the weaknesses that need to be addressed. Problems with leadership almost always boil down to immaturity. But the great news is, immaturity can be addressed and overcome once you know where it resides and what it looks like.

Based on my leadership enneagram, the nine-pointed diagram that dates back to ancient Babylon, the MLEI helps the executive coach help their executive clients chart their own thinking patterns, emotional make-up and feelings, and provides an accurate picture of their overall inner-core maturity. There are three basic leader trait combinations, each of which is further subdivided into three subtypes. We all operate in all three trait combinations and we all possess each one of the nine traits. The most important
questions for a leader, however, are: (1) which trait is my most active or predominant trait? and (2) how mature are each of my nine traits and how mature am I overall?
