The ESS is a free, searchable directory of coaching education that is accredited by ICF. ICF-accredited education has gone through a rigorous review process and demonstrated that its curriculum aligns with the ICF definition of coaching, Core Competencies and Code of Ethics. Level One,
Level Two, and Level Three offerings deliver foundational coach-specific education and training. Continuing Coach Education (CCE) offerings provide advanced and supplemental learning opportunities for trained and credentialed coach practitioners.
As the accrediting body for coach-specific education and accredited providers, we cannot recommend any specific coaching education organizations.

An ACTP since 2002, The Institute for Life Coach Training specializes in training counselors, therapists, social workers, pastors, educators and others who want to work with others to create more fulfilling lives. Our philosophy of life coaching is a whole person, non-directive, client-centered approach that focuses on client development, growth, and fulfillment. We are committed to providing a quality coach training program and in turn, quality coaches who are making a significant difference in the world. Coaching holds that each of us are capable, creative individuals, an expert in our lives. This same philosophy underlies all that ILCT does – from the individual personal attention you receive from our administration and faculty, to having one of the widest selections of ICF approved electives so you can customize some of your training to truly reflect what you will offer your clients, to offering a variety of certifications and credentials that you can pursue. ILCT is one of a handful of training programs that is an ACTP and is approved to train for the Board Certified Coach, for those with graduate degrees. Our students are part of an active online coaches community, a place to share resources, interact with current and past students, and receive support through your journey to become a professional coach. Additionally, students are able to attend free teleconference calls, held each month, on topics such as ethics, marketing, website design, credentialing, etc. and will have access to a personalized, electronic library with materials from your classes to support your learning and growth.
Most of our Faculty hold either masters and/or doctorate degrees in the social and behavioral sciences, have active coaching practices, are PCC's, BCC's or MCCs and are recognized leaders and experts in the coaching profession. Many have served or are serving on the ICF Board of Directors as well as ICF committees. |
| Program Description: |
Our training combines the best of psychological theories of adult development, human change, positive psychology, humanistic traditions, and systems theory, among others, with a theoretical/experiential component to help you develop into a competent and confident coach. To graduate from our ACTP program requires 130 hours of coach training, 102 hours of which are in required courses. The remaining 28 hours may be chosen from the more than 40 Elective Courses ILCT offers. Training begins with our Foundational course, the cornerstone of our coach training program. This forty-hour course provides essential knowledge and skills to launch a coaching career through twice-weekly teleclasses and once-a-week Peer Coaching practice and post-class assignments. This forty-hour course is divided into three modules. The ICF Core Competencies provide the basis for the knowledge and skills presented. Three hours of group mentoring will be completed during this class and will meet some of the mentor coaching requirements for the ACC. By the end of this class, most students are working as coaches. • Module 1 – You as Coach (22 hours) covers the definition of coach, distinctions between counseling, therapy, and coaching, the ethics of coaching, and a strong focus on the development of the basic coaching skills or core competencies, including but not limited to creating rapport, reframing, open questions, and active listening. Learning is developed both through readings, in class experiential and observational learning, reinforced through weekly Peer Coaching fieldwork.
•Module 2 - Business of Coaching (3 hours) is an introduction to marketing your own coaching business, including how to determine if a potential client is ready for coaching, determining your “ideal client” or niche, establishing contracts, the intake process, etc.
•Module 3 – From the Inside Out (15 hours) focuses on life design and personal fulfillment. This is both a personal journey, with students using an assortment of common coaching assessments to advance their personal development, as well as being trained on how to use these with their clients. Some of the issues addressed include needs, values, beliefs; Life purpose; Life design; Integrity, standards, choices and boundaries; reserve and abundance; and self-care for coaches. ILCT also offers 6 certification programs, awarded after 40 hours of additional coach training in the areas of Business, Career, Christian Life, Relationship, and Wellness coaching
